Family Photos
"Family faces are magic mirrors. Looking at people who belong
to us, we see the past, present, and future" (Gail Lumet Buckley)

How the whole archive project works
The idea is that everyone has access to everyone’s family photos (except the ones they want to keep private, of course!) BUT we are not just sharing photos online.
You will have access to:
1) Online photo albums, slideshows and scrapbooks
2) High resolution photos you can PRINT or download to your own computer
3) High resolution scrapbook albums (or single pages) you can print
4) Back up photos, slideshows and scrapbooks on DVDs
5) A Horswills and Hills families group on Facebook
6) An online family tree site with photos and a private messaging system
7) Regular newsletters about the project
Obviously we have more photos for grandparents onwards than any other period although there are a few very old photos to show you. The project includes all the wider extended families, the Mangans (my husband John’s family), the Lavericks (Nana Horswill’s family), the Antells (Mum’s cousin’s family) etc etc and every relative we can find worldwide. If you want to include your in-laws, you're welcome. We have a premium site on myHeritage that will take unlimited family and photos.
You get the picture! Literally … you will get the pictures if we have them!
Not all the family have internet access. If you know someone who doesn't please show them this site on a laptop or tell them about it.

Join In!
We want your photos and your stories! There are lots of notes on this site designed to help you. But if you want to just sent me a letter and/or photos without reading any of it that's fine.
What do we need? We need HIGH RESOLUTION photos.
CLICK HERE to read what that means before you continue! By "photo" we mean:
1) High Resolution photos you have taken with a digital camera - NOT your phone unless it's a recent top of the range takes-photos-like-a-camera phone. NOT from Facebook or any other online system that shrinks photos
OR
2) High Resolution scans of old photos. Either you scan them I scan them but they must be high resolution. There are some scanning guidelines for you HERE.

How to contribute photos
There are various ways you can send in photos:
1) Upload them to the private MyHeritage site
2) Put them on a disc and send them to me
3) email them to me 2 or 3 at a time (not recommended unless you only have a few to send)
4) Load them on to a Flickr or Smugmug account. You will a Pro account which allows higher resolution storage and download.
Please tag/label each photo with the names of the people, who took the photo (if known) and the date it was taken if you have it or send a separate list with numbers of photos and description. OK, if you are sending me pictures of my Nan I can work out who that is but basically any information you have about the photos will add to their storytelling value.
You can also send photos to me by post. Before you do that:
1) If there is any likelihood of you seeing me in person please wait until then to give me the photos rather than trusting them to the post office
2) Write anything you know about the photo on the back of it (but please don't cover up anything someone has already written)
2) Try at least to take a photo of the photo so we don't lose everything if the original goes missing BUT don't worry about losing them. Remember if you are the only one who can see the photos they are already lost to the rest of us!
3) Send photos in a board backed envelope or a strong box by recorded delivery. You will need to tell me you're doing this so I can be in for the postman.
Don't get hung up on the labelling - you can always give us the photos and we'll do the labelling later! There must be hundreds of photos in the "we'll have to sort it out" black hole. It's better if I have them.
You will get your photos back unless you don't want them in which case tell me and I'll store them in acid free archive boxes.
