All About Flickr
We're using SmugMug for our albums but they will also be on Flickr (I believe in using the "cloud" to back up photos. I just like to have two clouds ...)
We use Flickr because:
1) It's secure - only "friends and family" (see below) can see the albums
2) It's possible to put photos in more than one album very quickly
3) Flickr stores the full size photo AND you can download any size you like. You can see the photo at very high resolution on the screen - much better than on Facebook.
4) Anyone viewing the photos can add comments or notes (by pointing to something in the photo to add a description - very useful if we're not sure who someone is)
4) We have a group to share photos on there
5) You can put your photos into your own Flickr account and give me access to them to save having to email them to me.
The downside? You need to have a Flickr account to see photos on Flickr. It's also not very intuitive to use which is why there are lots of notes on here.

Setting Up Your Account
A Flickr account is FREE. It only costs money if you want to organise your photos into separate collections and albums (which Flickr calls sets). You do NOT need to upgrade if you only want to look at and download photos or add your own without too much organisation.
Flickr is owned by Yahoo and you need to have a Yahoo account to join. If you already have a Yahoo email account just go to Flickr and join.
If you don't have an Yahoo account go to Yahoo.com first and set one up. This will give you a Yahoo email address. You can ignore it or use it as you like. They are useful in that they offer filter options but they also tend to bounce emails and treat them as spam even when they're from your friends. I don't use mine as I have gmail accounts which offer the same features with less bouncing.
